Most of your prenatal and postpartum care will take place at our convenient location in Tudor Village at a cozy midwifery clinic that offers a comforting, supportive environment and a full range of prenatal and childbirth preparation services. During the first week after your baby is born, your midwife will provide in-home visits for maternal and newborn care, including breastfeeding support. Midwives value the opportunity to develop personalized care for each family. We want you to feel confident, heard and supported! Appointments with your midwife are 30-60 minutes so you have time to ask questions. Midwives respect the right of every individual to be fully informed about their options and to participate fully in healthcare decisions every step of the way. Midwives provide care for families in many settings: hospital, home and community. The right of a person to make an informed choice about the setting for their birth experience is a principle deeply respected by midwives. All the midwives at Mighty Oak Midwifery are members of the medical staff and hold hospital admitting privileges at Royal Inland Hospital. Midwives have the necessary skills, equipment and medications on hand to provide safe care for birth in a home setting, as well as hospital. Planned home births that are attended by registered midwives in Canada are associated with fewer obstetrical interventions and no increase in risk to mother or baby compared to births planned in hospital.
